Programs & Services: Support Groups
SUPPORT GROUPS
A support group is a place for people to give and receive both emotional and
practical support and information to one another. It can be comprised of
people with common interests or experiences. Many support groups are
diagnosis specific and serve several purposes for each individual. If you are
someone who wants to know more about your diagnosis, seeking information
on treatment options or even coping strategies then a support group may be
what you are looking for. It is beneficial in that it serves to empower its
members and provide a sense of control and independence when living with a
condition. Support groups can enhance communication skills, reduce isolation,
and provide educational and emotional support through information sharing.
Epilepsy York Region provides a warm, safe, and mutually-supportive
environment to those affected by a seizure disorder. People can meet,
socialize, or simply gather to share ideas, personal stories or experiences,
issues concerning epilepsy or even coping strategies with one another. We
make efforts to provide meetings for:
•
Parents of children living with epilepsy
•
Adults with epilepsy
•
Youth or young adults
